A necessary vehicle for achievement or obtaining anything in business is “goals.” Many people believe setting goals is a difficult task. However, most of us set and achieve goals everyday. For example, if a person walking outside on a very hot Summer day decides they would like a drink of cold water, that could be a goal.
The person may achieve that goal by going home, going into the kitchen, reaching for a glass, and filling that glass with ice and water. Lastly the person achieves the goal one hundred percent by drinking the cold glass of water. The goal is accomplished.
Lack of capital is not the only reason why businesses do not get off the ground, but it is the lack of planning which consist of goals. There are some people who say, “ I am going to try this and if it does not work then this was not for me.” This, my friend, is a fatalistic approach to planning, and this is not goal setting. A person should not be surprised when some of their wishes or desires concerning their business are not fulfilled, if they fail to set goals.
Just wishing for a drink of cold water on a hot day will probably not get you a drink of cold water. I know the possibility of someone miraculously appearing and offering you water could happen, but truly what are the odds? In order to guarantee success in business, one should not rely on luck or chance, but on specific, measureable, and achievable goals.
